H2 Alperujo Martos

The H2 Alperujo project provides a solution to a waste management problem by providing the market with a sustainable, competitive and replicable energy solution.

Our plant, strategically located in Martos (Jaén), takes advantage of the residual product of the olive oil industry, the olive pomace, transforming it into different high value products for the energy market.

🔋 Planned production in Martos (Jaén):

  • Biomethane: 103 GWh/year.

  • CO₂ biogenic: >10,000 t/year, from the digestion process.

  • Green methanol: 7,000 t/year

  • Other by-products: olive pomace oil, compost and fertigation water.

Through an advanced anaerobic digestion process, the Martos plant will be able to supply more than 100 GWh/year of biomethane, equivalent to the energy consumption of approximately 13,700 households. The production will be injected into the existing gas network located less than 5 km away.

Most of the biogenic CO₂ generated in Martos will be used as an input for the production of green methanol and its subsequent commercialization in different industrial sectors. Another part of the biogenic CO₂ will be liquefied for transport and commercialization in the agri-food and chemical industry.

The Martos facility will also have a 10 MW electrolysis capacity, based on dedicated renewable energies to meet 100% RFNBO methanol production.

With this project, Avalon Renovables promotes local development and the evolution of a strategic sector, such as the olive oil industry, through innovative solutions that pave the way towards a competitive and sustainable energy future.
